Who is this vinyl DJ course for?

This vinyl DJ course in Riga is designed for music collectors, aspiring DJs, digital DJs who want to master analogue technique, creative industry professionals and analogue audio enthusiasts. No previous DJ or music education is required — a good sense of rhythm and an interest in analogue audio are all you need.

COURSE PROGRAMME

What's inside the course?

1. Introduction to vinyl culture and DJ equipment anatomy

Vinyl history; turntable components; cartridges and needles; mixer functions; phono/line signal basics.

BPM, 4/4 time, bars and phrases; visual navigation on vinyl; cueing and first-beat preparation.

Intro, build-up and outro; genre and tonal compatibility; record care; audience and environment awareness.

Manual tempo synchronization by ear; pitch fader use; blending; EQ control and low-frequency management.

Club sound system and monitor workflow; cable routing; soundcheck; individual 40-minute set performance.

Listening back to the recorded club set; individual technical and artistic feedback; development recommendations.

A complete vinyl set — and a pathway to the stage.

The course concludes with a practical exam: an independent vinyl DJ set performance prepared in a real club acoustic environment, assessed on equipment handling, beatmatching accuracy, EQ control, and musical structure.  
 

High-performing students may be invited to perform at Teritorija Club in a real public setting — with a live audience, professional sound system and club equipment.

Vinyl DJ course — common questions

Do I need my own vinyl records or equipment?
No, you do not need any professional equipment. The course takes place in Digi Media’s studio and microphones, studio equipment and course materials are provided. Participants are only asked to bring their own laptop so they can participate during the course and outside of class.

Yes. Learning to beatmatch by ear on vinyl is the fastest way to deepen your technique — many digital DJs take this course exactly for that.

No. A good sense of rhythm and an interest in analogue audio are enough — the course covers the music theory a DJ needs.

The final sessions and the exam performance take place in a real club environment in Riga,using a professional sound system.

The course includes a club-environment practice for all participants. In addition, selected students who show strong progress, technical control and artistic readiness may be invited to perform at Teritorija Club in a real public setting with a live audience and professional equipment.
