Subtitle resync is the retiming of existing subtitle files after a video has been re-edited. When a cut changes — a scene trimmed, a sponsor bumper added, a runtime adjusted for a new platform — every subsequent subtitle drifts out of sync. We accurately retime existing subtitles following video edits, ensuring perfect synchronization without requiring retranslation.
This matters because the translation is usually still perfect. The words are right; only the timecodes are wrong. Paying a linguist to translate the same dialogue again is a waste of budget, and re-approving new text costs more time than the edit itself. Subtitle resync questions, answered
What is subtitle resync?
Subtitle resync is the retiming of existing subtitle files after a video has been re-edited. The translation stays as it is; only the timecodes are corrected so every line lands on the right frame again.
How is it different from ordering new subtitles?
New subtitles mean translating the dialogue from scratch, which costs more and starts a new approval cycle. Resync keeps the approved translation and fixes only what the edit broke. If the dialogue itself changed, those lines are translated and the rest are resynced.
How long does resync take?
Typically 1-3 business days, depending on runtime and how many languages are involved. All languages are handled in the same pass, so ten languages do not take ten times as long.
Which subtitle formats do you work with?
SRT, WebVTT, TTML, STL, SCC, DFXP and broadcaster-specific formats. Send us whatever you have — if it is a subtitle file, we can read it, and we deliver in whichever format your platform requires.
What if some dialogue was added in the new cut?
We flag it rather than guess. New lines are quoted as translation, the rest as resync, so you only pay translation rates for what is genuinely new.
Which languages do you resync?

Do you re-check reading speed after retiming?
Yes. A shorter cut can push subtitles closer together, which breaks reading-speed compliance even when the timing is technically correct. We re-check characters per second across the whole file and adjust where needed.
Can you handle frame rate conversions?
Yes. 23.976 to 25, PAL to NTSC and film-to-broadcast conversions all shift every timecode in the file. We convert and verify against picture rather than applying a blanket offset.
What's your pricing model?
Per runtime minute, per language, at a lower rate than original subtitling because the translation is reused. Multi-language and full-catalogue rates are available for libraries.
Do you handle pre-release content securely?
Yes. Re-edits usually happen before release, so files are handled in TPN Gold certified workflows under NDA, with controlled access throughout.
