OVERVIEW

The last pair of eyes before your content goes public

Proofreading is the last step before publication, not a rewrite. The text is already translated and approved. What remains is catching what survived every earlier pass — the wrong number, the dropped line, the heading that lost its capital, the space that quietly became two.

Proofreading here is bilingual. The proofreader works with the source text open beside the translation, so omissions, numbers that do not match, mistranslated names and skipped lines all surface — the errors a spell checker will never find, because the sentence is perfectly correct, just not what the original said.

Formatting counts as language. We check headings, captions, lists, tables, footnotes and page furniture for consistency, catch broken hyphenation and stray double spaces, and confirm that dates, units, currencies and quotation marks follow the conventions of the target market rather than the source. Files come back in their original format, with tracked changes or clean — your choice.

Whether it is one landing page before launch, a 400-page annual report, or a continuous stream of campaign copy — our proofreading services scale to the work. Per-word rates for standard documents, project pricing for long-form and books, and framework agreements for ongoing publication schedules.

EDUCATIONAL

How proofreading works, from first comparison to final read

Proofreading is not one pass with a red pen. It is five passes, each looking for something different — because the eye that is checking meaning cannot also count spaces.

01

Source & Target Comparison

The translation is read against the source, segment by segment. We catch omissions, additions, numbers that do not match, and names or references that changed on the way across.

02

Grammar, Spelling & Punctuation Check

A dedicated language pass — agreement, tense, articles, prepositions, spelling, hyphenation and punctuation — measured against the conventions of the target market, not the habits of the source language.

03

Style & Tone Alignment

Register checked against your style guide and brand voice. We flag sentences that are correct but stiff, terminology that drifts between sections, and headings that lost their punch in translation.

04

Formatting & Layout Review

Headings, lists, tables, captions, footnotes and page breaks checked for consistency. Dates, units, currencies and quotation marks converted to local convention, and stray double spaces removed.

05

Final Read & Delivery

One last uninterrupted read at natural speed — the pass that catches what reading line by line hides. Delivered in the original format, tracked changes or clean, with a short note on anything we could not resolve without you.

WHAT WE OFFER

Every format that has to be right the first time it is seen

Our proofreading services cover every document type where an error costs more than it would have cost to prevent — from campaign copy and websites to annual reports, books and print proofs, in 48 languages.

Marketing & Advertising Copy

Campaign copy, ads, emails and social assets checked before they go out. Tone, claim wording and punctuation verified — including the headline everyone stopped reading three drafts ago.

Pre-launch

Websites & Landing Pages

Web copy proofread in the page, not in a document. Navigation, buttons, forms, meta titles and alt text included, so nothing that looked correct in Word arrives broken on screen.

In-page

Corporate Reports & Presentations

Annual reports, financial statements, board decks and internal communications. Figures cross-checked against the source, headings and numbering consistent, terminology stable across hundreds of pages.

Board-ready

Books & Long-Form Editorial

Fiction, non-fiction, catalogues and long-form editorial. Consistent style across an entire manuscript — names, hyphenation, capitalisation and running heads that hold from page one to the end.

Publication

Subtitles & Scripts

Subtitle files and voice scripts checked for spelling, punctuation, line breaks and reading flow. Pronunciation and number readings clarified before recording or publication.

Print & Packaging Proofs

Final proofs checked before print — packaging, labels, brochures and signage. The last chance to catch an error that would otherwise be reprinted ten thousand times.

DECISION SUPPORT

Are our proofreading services right for your project?

A quick self-check to confirm proofreading is the right fit — and an honest pointer elsewhere if what you need is something else.

✓ This service is right for you if

 Typical projects we handle

Not sure this is the right service? If your text has not been translated yet, start with Translation. If machine translation output needs bringing up to publication standard, that is MTPE. And if your content needs checking inside a running app, game build or subtitle track — with severity-rated issue logs and fix verification — that is Linguistic QA. Send us the file, your target languages and your deadline, and we will return a quote within 24 hours.

What the process looks like from your side — from the file you send to the file you publish.

DIGI MEDIA proofreading services — bilingual source and target comparison across 48 languages

Read against the source, corrected, returned in your format

What comes back is your own file, not a new one. Same format, same layout, with every correction visible as a tracked change — or already applied, if you would rather publish than review. Anything we could not resolve without you comes with a short note, not a guess.

CREDENTIALS

Confidential handling, and never the translator checking their own work

A translator cannot reliably proofread their own work — the eye reads what it meant to write, not what it wrote. So every file goes to a second linguist, under NDA, on EU infrastructure, and never through a public AI tool.

FAQ

Proofreading frequently asked questions

Everything marketing managers, editors and communications teams need to know about our proofreading services.

What is proofreading?

Proofreading is the final language check before publication. A native speaker of the target language reads the finished text, corrects grammar, spelling, punctuation and stylistic inconsistencies, checks formatting and local conventions, and returns a publication-ready file. It is the last step, not a rewrite.

Editing changes the text — structure, argument, flow, word choice. Proofreading corrects it without rewriting it. If your text is well written and needs a final check, proofread it. If it needs reworking, that is editing, and we will tell you so rather than quietly rewriting your document.

Yes, as standard. Our proofreaders work with the source open beside the translation, which is how omissions, mismatched numbers and mistranslated names get caught. Many providers call monolingual reading “proofreading” — we do not.

Proofreading is a final language polish of a finished text — grammar, spelling, punctuation, style and formatting — delivered as a corrected file. Linguistic QA is a structured inspection of translated content inside its real environment, such as an app, a game build or a subtitle track, delivered as a severity-rated issue log with fix verification. Documents get proofreading. Releases get QA.

We work in 48 languages and 63 regional versions, across Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Every project is handled by a native specialist in the target language. You can see the full list, including versions such as Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish and Canadian French, on our Languages page.

Up to 5 working days after we receive your files, for a standard scope. Volume is the main variable — a landing page and a 400-page report are not the same job. The exact turnaround is confirmed with your quote, before you commit.

Whichever you prefer. Tracked changes let you review and accept each correction one by one; clean files are ready to publish as they are. If you are not sure, we send both.

Word, Google Docs, PDF, InDesign packages, PowerPoint, Excel, HTML, XML, subtitle files (SRT, VTT, ITT) and plain text. Files come back in the format you sent them in. For PDFs we mark up in comments — if you can supply the source file instead, the result is always cleaner.

Yes. Projects are handled under NDA on request, files stay within our own infrastructure, and your content is not shared with third-party or public AI tools. GDPR applies to everything we process.

Per word for standard documents, per project for books and long-form, and framework agreements with agreed rates for ongoing publication schedules. Send the file and your target languages for a fixed quote within 24 hours.
